The Non-Poster's Post

I just got a book from the fabulous Robin Williams called, "The Non-Designer's Design and Type Book." I really enjoy her writing style. It's entertaining + educational = a good combo, in my humble opinion! I'd encourage anyone to read her stuff, especially the art-minded. Anyway, the title reminds me of something that happened today. I have the opportunity to design a website for a client for school. She sent me a link to her blog. I wanted to respond in kind, especially given the work I'm going to be doing for her (website-making). However, it was pretty embarrassing, since I hadn't updated my own blog since JANUARY!

Hurry quick, get rid of the so-old-it's-not-even-available-anymore layout; write a fresh post so you seem a little more professional.

Ahh, that's better. I'd say I'll update you all on how the work for my client goes, but you know how often I keep up on my blog... or not... :)

My missing part

I'm reposting this from HydranAngels, where I originally wrote it.

"I find myself occasionally looking for something I've lost.

"I'll go into my little guy's old room and, for a split second, I'll think, something should be here that isn't; what is that, anyway?
Or I'll drive past his old therapy place and feel the mental reminder click in, "Oh, it's Tuesday. We should be going there today."
Or, most bittersweet of all, I'll have a dream where I'm holding him and taking care of him again, but when I wake up, only emptiness is in the spot my sleep-addled brain remembers so recently there being a little person.

"We go by his gravesite, and as my husband and I sit contemplating silently, I think, Xavier isn't here. This place is so cold, so empty. He was always life and exuberance, happy just to be alive.

"My mind wanders at such times, wondering just what he is doing right now in his little spirit form. Regardless of how illogical it is, I wish I could be with him once more; not for death, just a temporary visitation somehow. Yet I know that even were this possible, I wouldn't be satisfied once the time was through.

"For this reason, I'm thankful for God's plan of salvation, taught in my church, so I know that families can be together forever, and that we can all live together in happiness with our Heavenly Father.

"I didn't intend on this being missionary-oriented, so I hope that doesn't offend anyone. But I suppose it's impossible for me to discuss this topic without bringing my beliefs into it. For more information, please see http://www.lds.org.

"Thanks for reading my vent."

Back to school, back to school...

TJ and I are in the process of registering for classes, getting our Financial Aid in order, and all of that "fun" stuff. :P :) TJ is trying to juggle his current class load while getting re-registered as well. He's got a lot on his plate. He keeps giving school his best, and has got the grades to prove it! I'm so proud of him!
I got my financial aid offers back, and that was a relief! Now I'm getting in gear mentally for going back. Time to blow off the dust and polish off the rust! lol

Check out devsdoodlings for my latest foray into school prep/just pure fun!

Hello again!

This adorable picture of Xavier is one I took on my cell phone, and I scrapbooked it today. I really like how it turned out!

So I'm finally getting back to my blog, after the craziness of this summer. All of you who read this probably already know, but just in case someone missed it, our little Xavier guy passed away in July. We miss him always, of course, but feel comforted in the gospel of Jesus Christ, knowing that because of what He did, we can be together forever someday.

I also have a tryptic (a 3-piece) digital artwork I am working on right now that I'll be posting to my art blog soon. I finished the first segment yesterday evening. I am so excited about it! I loooooove making art. It so freeing; I can express myself so well through it. You know what? I don't want to wait to show you the painting I made yesterday, after all, so I'll post it to my art blog after this. Stay tuned! :D

Toddler Property Laws

One of Xavier's helpers gave us this cute list a while ago, and I thought I'd share.

1. If I like it, it's mine.
2. If it's in my hand, it's mine.
3. If I can take it from you, it's mine.
4. If I had it a little while ago, it's mine.
5. If it's mine, it must never appear to be yours in any way.
6. If I'm doing or building something, all the pieces are mine.
7. If it looks like mine, it's mine.
8. If I saw it first, it's mine.
9. If you are playing with something and you put it down, it automatically becomes mine.
10. If it's broken, it's yours. (No, the pieces are probably still mine.)
